2006 D-Day Salute Turn-out

Origin

When Hunkeler, then Wolve transferred to the 3rd Infantry Division from the 29th Infantry Division, it was the day before D-Day. The 3rd ID was not prepared for such an event, but homage was still paid to the fallen soldiers on June 6th, 2001. The members in attendance of the ceremony were never accounted for, and their names have been lost to history.

From that moment point forward, out of respect for the men who fought on the beaches of Normandy and all of Europe, the 3rd Infantry Division holds an annual salute to those men.

The Ceremony

Members from throughout the community are invited to the event via forum posts and word of mouth. When the server is full or the men are ready to start, the Officer in charge calls the 3rd ID to attention. The honor guard procedure is started, and a speech is given to remember the fallen soldiers. After the ceremony, the people in attendance are free to stay to duke it out on the server and have fun.
