Back Story

Drills.jpg

Just months after the conception of the 3rd Infantry Division, Captain Higgins and Sergeant Briggs, two firm believers in role-playing, decided to require the unit to perform in a more realistic manner. Although limited with what was possible, and what was not, Drill and Ceremony (originally Close Order Rifle Drill) became widely accepted by the 3rd ID. It added a new level to the experience that no other clan, or guild had ever tried before.

In the beginning, the idea of drilling in a video game setting was considered to be a waste of time, stupid, and silly. Through indirect observation, word of mouth, and first hand accounts with the 3rd ID, realism units began to spring up throughout the community. Over time, soldiers who previously served with the 3rd Infantry Division branched off, creating their own realism units in the 3rd ID's image using what they had learned while serving.

The first known unit to be created in the image of the 3rd Infantry Division was the 28th Infantry Division; spearheaded by Captain Forsythe. To this day, the division is still practicing Drill and Ceremony. Notably, the 3rd Panzer Grenadiers (3PG) was created by MSgt. Briggs shortly after he left the division in the summer of 2003. The 3PG also regularly performed rifle drills, as per tradition.

Usage

Weekly Training

Example.jpg

The 3rd Infantry Division holds two drill dates per week, roughly eight drills per month, and depending on holidays, ninety-six drills per year. At the beginning of each training session Drill and Ceremony is performed, and at the end of the training session Drill and Ceremony is performed again. The 3rd Infantry Division holds pride for such tradition, and rarely is it overlooked.

Match or Scrimmage Salute

No matter the outcome of a match or scrimmage, the 3rd Infantry Division salutes its opponent on the battlefield for a job well done by performing Drill and Ceremony. In the beginning, circa 2001, clans or guilds would often execute members of the 3rd ID while in formation with grenades, rifle fire, or other means. It was not until the year 2002 that 3rd ID realism was accepted within the gaming community, thus minimizing such occurrences during a match or scrimmage salute.

Commemoration

The 3rd Infantry Division officially began using drills to commemorate fallen soldiers on U.S National Holidays, June 6th, 2001. Since then, other realism units have been invited under an open door policy to attend such events.
