On June 3rd, 2001 the 29th Infantry Division permanently disbanded after three years of service. On June 5th, 2001 (a Wednesday) within a week of meeting Hunkeler (Wolve), Higgins made a snap decision to commission him a Second Lieutenant in the ranks of the 3rd Infantry Division. The Executive Officer (1Lt. Ski) at the time of Hunkeler's commission was away for the summer on a family vacation. Hunkeler was introduced to the unit by Higgins on the same day during drills; which subsequently was handed over to Hunkeler to lead. The drill lasted for two long hours, as they officially welcomed him to the 3rd Infantry Division family. The next day, to commemorate the fallen soldiers of World War II, and the disbandment of the 29th ID, the 3rd Infantry Division held a small ceremony on dod_omaha. An honor guard salute was performed, and a short written speech was given on the barbed-wire fence line facing the ocean.

After a very short while (ten days), Hunkeler made a deal with Higgins requiring that Stryker (Young) to be recruited into the 3rd Infantry Division. Having been Hunkeler's trusted Executive Officer for three long years, it was deemed necessary that they should be allowed to fight side-by-side on the battlefield once again. Although Young enlisted as a Private, he made his way through the ranks eventually becoming the unit's First Sergeant; the highest enlisted rank attainable by any soldier in the 3rd Infantry Division.

In the first quarter of 2002, after Ski left the unit, Hunkeler was promoted to First Lieutenant and assigned the Executive Officer of the 3rd Infantry Division. Hunkeler served his commission until April 17th, 2005 when he resigned his position to join the United States Army as an Infantryman. In March of 2006, after having completed his training, and settled down with at his permanent duty station, Fort Lewis, Hunkeler enlisted with the 3rd Infantry Division under the terms of a special agreement. He was given the assignment of Military Advisor, and tasked with the job of converting real-life tactics to Call of Duty 2. Having many side projects, such as the Wiki you are reading now, he is still actively performing his duties as a soldier in the real, and virtual military. Although not a true founding member of the 3rd Infantry Division, many rules, regulations, traditions, drills, administration methods, and every day operations are credited to the hard work of Higgins, Briggs, Young, and Hunkeler.
