[edit] History
[edit] Before the MP Corps
The Officers and Non-Commissioned Officers of the 3rd Infantry Division were tasked with the job of server administration. Troublemakers were dealt with on a case by case basis, under the supervision of no one in particular. Although the men who were given the right, and the ability to kick, ban, or rape (circa, Day of Defeat) people on the server were trusted, misuse of power became apparent. There were incidents reported by server regulars of mistreatment, and abuse (unwarranted slaps, slays, llamas, and teleports). However slight, or few and far between, these actions needed to be stopped, because if it was to continue, the community driven experience would be in jeopardy.
[edit] The Creation
Starting in late 2003, the Command Staff came upon a ruling that added a new assignment opportunity to the 3rd Infantry Division; the Military Police Officer. Tasked with in-game server administration, under a strict set of rules, these individuals were hand picked by Officers and higher ranking NCOs to fill the slots. Abuse of power became a thing of the past, and the public heavily relied upon the Military Police to keep the server clean of team killers, and spammers. In conjunction with the creation of the Corps, a forum was created for the public to report incidents, and appeal individual bans, which became a great success for a long period of time.
The Military Police Corps patrolled public forums, deleting spam, or unwanted messages containing offensive material.
[edit] Today
As with any assignment that has served its purpose throughout the years, the MP Corps still patrols the server, and the forums awaiting the opportunity to help the community stay clean, and safe.
[edit] Rules and Regulations Memo (2004)
As an MP you rank among the most powerful and promising enlisted men in the 3rd ID. This position is not easy, and often it isn't fun. However, it is a very promising path as long as you don't screw up. That's why I've decided to post some guidelines which I feel will allow us all to operate on the same page and to be the best we can be. I want all of you to read this and sign your names in this thread. Consider it a contract, the violation of which puts you at my mercy. Do not disappoint.
- As a [3rd ID] military policeman, you are expected to uphold the server law at all times and under all circumstances.
- As such, you are officially authorized to kick or ban anyone who misbehaves in an unacceptable and uncontrollable manner. This includes members of the public, and fellow 3rd ID members.
- Under no circumstances will you break any of the server rules that you have been assigned to protect.
- You are considered on duty 24/7. If you can be reached, you will be expected to answer the call if there is an emergency. Leave ICQ on as much as possible, the public will sometimes leave messages requesting assistance. If this happens, you are to drop whatever you are doing and attend to the server.
- You are the first and last line of defense against any rule breakers, you are required to administrate the server whenever possible, this can include watching statistics remotely.
- Always remember that you are judge, jury, and executioner. You are to be a neutral mediator in any argument, only defending yourself when directly confronted. Try to break up any quarrel between players before it escalates.
- Kicking and Banning are always last resorts. Use them only in situations that cannot be contained through words.
- Be polite and use correct grammar whilst administrating.
- You are required to know all of the RCON kick/ban commands as well as how to use GSA. If you have a problem remembering, write them down and put them somewhere nearby.
- When using GSA, you are to copy and paste any banned players into the Moron List as soon as you leave the game.
- If an officer is in-game, ask permission of him before kicking or banning someone, except in situations where an immediate, emergency kick or ban is needed to maintain the peace.
- If you suspect someone of cheating or hacking, but it is not made obvious, record a demo and upload it to this forum for review.
- If there is undeniable evidence that a person is obviously hacking, you are to ban them immediately. Please use your absolute best judgment.
Above all else, preserve and uphold the honor of this unit and this duty. Failure to do so will result in your expulsion from the Military Police corps and possible court marshal.
Sgt. Richard Fowler (Retired)
Chief of Military Police.
