[edit] Enlisting

Enlistments are handled in the recruiting office of the 3rd Infantry Division's forums. Prospective enlistees should refer to the format for enlisting in the division.

[edit] Importance of TeamSpeak

It is often said that more than Call of Duty 2 or any other shooter, TeamSpeak is the 3rd ID's "game". TeamSpeak activity is essential. The unit extends beyond merely enjoying playing a tactical game, and this concept can only be understood if enlistees make a conscious effort to get to know others and make a presence on voice comm. Of course the game does play an integral role in the 3rd ID, but the unit does not solely stand on it.

The importance of TeamSpeak activity for potential recruits is discussed further in a post made by 1st Sgt. Townsend. This is a must read for enlistees.

[edit] Recruit Tag Program

The Recruit Tag Program (referred to as RTP) was initiated to actively reward and acknowledge enlistees who have stood out among the pool and are well on their way to Basic Combat Training in the 3rd Infantry Division. More information on the RTP can be found here. This is a must read for enlistees.

[edit] Enlistees inducted into RTP

  • Must have had good activity above all on TeamSpeak, and on the forums and server.
  • Must have displayed a good attitude, healthy respect for 3rd ID members, and seem ready for BCT when the time comes.
  • Are NOT members of the 3rd Infantry Division. They are still enlistees, but acknowledged ones well on their way into the unit.
  • Do NOT wear the 3rd ID's tags on TeamSpeak, on the game server, or on Xfire. Their names are merely: Rct. Last Name.
  • Do NOT wear any 3rd ID avatar patches. The crossed rifles is for Privates in training, while the blank patch is for enlisted Privates.
  • Are expected to use the M1 Garand and its counterparts (Kar98, Lee Enfield, Mosin Nagant) at all times. While they will not be forced to use these weapons we will be careful to note which serious enlistees are complying.
  • Are placed under the same scrutiny a recruit in BCT would be and all members of the unit always are. They are required to address all soldiers above Corporal by their rank as unit members are expected to.
  • Are well on their way into Basic Combat Training, and from there, the 3rd Infantry Division.

[edit] Acceptance into Basic Combat Training

Once a sufficient number of enlistees have been inducted into the Recruit Tag Program, Basic Combat Training begins. Enlistees eligible are drafted as Privates and change their names to: Pvt. Last Name [3rd ID] with the unit tags. Technically, recruits are now a part of the unit; but the scrutiny is far from over, and they will not be officially labeled Marne dogs until completion of BCT.

[edit] Recruits are accepted into Basic Combat Training based on

  • a willingness to listen to orders
  • a demonstrated positive attitude towards members of the unit
  • a healthy respect for the unit's history and its objective to emulate a combat infantry unit deployed during World War 2
  • skill is NOT a factor, however basic knowledge of the mechanics of first-person shooters is necessary

REMEMBER: You're trying to get into the 3rd ID. Marne dogs and 3rd ID recruits address people by rank. He's not Doe, he's Sgt. Doe or Lt. Doe. (Obviously, all sergeants except Master Sergeant and First Sergeant may be addressed merely by Sergeant, including technical NCOs.) Show us you want to be a part of the 3rd ID by following this protocol.

[edit] More on BCT

Refer to the separate article on BCT here. This is a must read for all enlistees.

[edit] Time-in-grade for Promotion to PFC

Upon graduation from Basic Combat Training there is a 3 month time-in-grade requirement -- among others -- for a promotion to Private First Class. More information on the TIG required for promotion after BCT may be gathered here.

[edit] Questions

The most common concerns of potential recruits (enlistees) and recruits are often very easily addressed, if they're only brought up. Don't hesitate to ask a member of the training staff or any other Marne dog if you have any questions regarding enlistment or Basic Combat Training. If the person is not in a position to answer your question or is otherwise unable to, they will refer you up the chain of command. The most important thing to keep in mind is that there are no stupid questions -- only stupid people who don't ask stupid questions. (A favorite quote of one of your BCT instructors.)

[edit] Good luck in your effort to become a part of the 3rd Infantry Division! Rock of the Marne!
