Restructures

February 2001
Changes
The original structure of the 3rd ID consists of four parts. The CO is in charge of essentially every aspect of the unit. Any changes to the command structure, promotions, and leadership passes through the CO for approval at least one time. The XO passes information, ideas, promotions, criticisms, and leadership from himself, and the soldiers, through the CO. Once an issue has been passed to the CO by to the XO, a decision is made, and in turn is passed back to the soldiers. The loop of events is infinite, and must follow the chain.
Drawbacks
- If the CO was unavailable for any length of time, no changes to the unit occurred.
- The power of the XO was limited by the event chain to a purely non-administrative level.
- Recruitment was handled by the CO in conjunction with the XO. No recruitment was possible without approval.
- Member separation (discharge) was handled by the CO.
- NCO level soldiers had little to no power.

June 2001
The 3rd ID grew very quickly. Controlling soldiers became impossible due to size, so it was recommended that the unit split into companies.
Able Company
Controlled by Cpt. Higgins, A Co.'s main focus became flag captures, and total annihilation of the enemy. A Co. was trained to react to any given situation at a moment's notice. A Co.'s fluid blitzkrieg tactics became the spearhead to victory in many scrimmages, matches, and public engagements.
Baker Company
Controlled by 2Lt. Hunkeler, B Co. unofficially became the D-Team as he believed heavily in defensive tactics. The soldiers in B. Co were taught to master the defensive positions of all in-game maps, relied upon automatic weapons (machine guns), and patience. B Co. only entered front-line action only if absolutely necessary.
Easy Company
Controlled by MSgt. Briggs, E Co. consisted of recruit soldiers. The concept of a company solely dedicated to training became a reality during this phase. The original structure of the 3rd ID placed recruits directly on the front-line, expecting the soldiers to learn on the go. This proved to be inefficient, and Easy Company was born.
- Band of Brothers played a part in the official conception of the company.
September 26, 2002
The 3rd Infantry Division had finally taken off in the Day of Defeat community, and the with the massive influx of soldiers, the unit was forced to adapt for the second time. This restructure segregated the 3rd Infantry Division into three companies.
Changes
- Able - Offense
- Baker - Defense
- Easy - Training
Even though it was recognized that Easy Company was out of phonetic order, the naming convention held until the community began to shun Band of Brothers inspired unit themes. Easy Company was not classified as an independent unit; so the title remained the same until it outgrew its purpose.
- No Private or Private First Class has any power over any other Private or Private First Class.
- Respect of rank will be observed within companies, and orders given by a superior will be carried out immediately.
- If no leadership remains in their company, Privates and Privates First Class will report directly to an officer, though if no order is given, they will stay put until their company’s leadership arrives. The order will most likely be to hold anyway.
- If there is no leadership from one company in a game, Privates and Privates First Class will be assimilated into the other company.
- The highest-ranking man present will assume control of the course of action for both companies.
- The officers of the command staff do not have control of a single company of their own; rather, they can dynamically take control of either company at any time.
- Able Company is designated to specializing in offensive combat engagements, while Baker Company is designated to specializing in defensive action, but soldiers may be called upon to perform any task given them.
- The usual respect of rank is expected between companies; however, higher-ranking soldiers of one company will refrain from trying to command those from the other company. The only exception is when the highest-ranking man present is not an officer, and therefore leads both companies.
- More Privates can be allocated to either company as they are recruited. Balance of both power and numbers should be observed when delegating the new men to their companies.
