The Battle of Briggs

Written in satirical format by Hunkeler, in his own perspective of the events that took place.

At the very climax of the Project Nancy incident stood Briggs. He is a fairly ill-mannered asshole who strongly believes in nothing more than a harder, more productive 3rd Infantry Division run on fear and wit alone. In the very beginning as the unit grew, Briggs was ready to execute anyone below his rank with a pistol at all times. His attention to detail was almost sickening, and many well known battle plans won countless engagements with the enemy. Although Briggs' methods eventually were looked down upon over time after he left to create the 3rd ID's sister axis unit, the 3PG, his good works remained in effect.

Having helped to create, manage, and build most of what the online realism community calls "home", he was most disappointed to find out that he was forever barred from reentering the 3rd Infantry Division ever again. When the 3PG began everyone wished him luck, and one day hoped that he would be able to spread the good word of the 3rd ID to all the clans in the virtual world. And so he did, for long while before attempting to return on his own accord of which he was denied. The pseudo-new 3rd ID with its new methods of kindness shunned Briggs' work ethic, thus not allowing him to regain his control over the training of every new soldier within the unit. Again, as time passed his anger grew toward the 3rd ID, and with his relentless witty remarks further destroyed any chances he had of getting back in.

Briggs became idolized by a few people who believed that his reign of virtual verbal torment, and his honed ability to weed out potentially rotten apples before they could join the unit, became an integral part of the otherwise harmless (yet revered) Project Nancy lead by Briggs' good friend Hunkeler.

The Battle

After the fiasco resulting from the single drill that Briggs attended that almost completely destroyed the unit itself, a meeting was proposed to settle the situation like men. The people who wanted Briggs back in the 3rd ID ultimately became his defense attorneys in one of the biggest unit-wide trials to ever take place in a single day. Everyone in the unit came to see the spectacle, whether they contributed their input or not, watched as the two parties fought over the fate of poor Briggs for hours. Essentially, in the end nobody won. The compromise (or house arrest agreement) that eventually resulted became more of a burden than a success.

The glee rescinded as Briggs began to realize that the 3rd ID was no longer for him, and battle over his position, rank, stature, and tarnished name was pointless. Causing more pain that it was worth, Briggs retired his services within the week. Hunkeler having unfortunately more pressing matters to deal with, like the fate of the unit, forced himself to forget about the possibility that his friend for so many years would serve next to him again in the virtual battlefields of Call of Duty (once Day of Defeat).

As previously stated, the good works of a man hated so much for no justified particular reason live on every day. Those who knew him personally back in the day so to speak will never forget his cunning, and still will be forever missed as the 3rd ID's Master Sergeant from Hell.
